There has simply never been a worse tribute to any band. It’s so insulting to the original energy and vibrancy of the Clash spirit, that even the fact that the proceeds from it go to sick children (not the ones with AK-47’s, the other ones), I couldn’t recommend that anyone purchase it. Sorry kids, but not only do the choices of songs suck, for example, why is Ice Cube not freestyling on the heavily rap influenced ‘Magnificent Seven’, or ‘Lightning Strikes’ instead of ‘Should I Stay…’, is he afraid of the politics? Not one of the numbers really succeeds in taking a fresh look or even rocking out the power chords. It’s no fun, old Clash records are cheaper anyway, and if you can somehow make it to the end of the Indigo Girl’s butchering of ‘Clampdown’, I’ve got a bondage film I want you to star in.
