Sinatra called him the best singer in the business. On Playin’ With My Friends, Bennett has surrounded himself with some of the biggest pop singers in the business for an album of blues classics and mutual admiration. kd lang and Sheryl Crow, Billy Joel and Stevie Wonder and Tony’s contemporaries Ray Charles and BB King also contribute to the intimate feeling on the 75 year-olds’ swan song. With Kay Starr Blue and Sentimental is messerizing, and The BB King track clicks. The New York State Of Mind strokefest with Joel gets a bit out of hand, but for would be players in Prague I’d listen to it alone if I wasn’t with Dasa Havel.
