SIMPLE MINDS The Best Of

A 32 track two disc set for those who were able to traverse the divergent styles of their early experimental successes and 90’s stadium filler that the early Mindsheads were easy to dismiss. It’s telling that the brilliant house version of Theme for Great Cities by Raven Maize tacked on at the end makes use of the more groove oriented anthemic early eighties songs. The pop hooks of their later work not able to withstand the mixing board as flexibly. The great ones like Love Song and Promised You a Miracle highlight the weakness of the later, mostly heart felt uplifting but colorless pop. Better to buy everything up to Sparkle In the Rain.
