MOBY Hotel

MOBY Hotel

Perhaps the most contentious figure in all of electronic music, Moby is praised by some for ushering the genre into mainstream consciousness (most notably with his 1991 debut, Go) and derided by others for being – quite simply – a hack. None of his material since Go has been able to match that album’s energy or ambition. Smart money says we should expect lackluster results from his latest release, Hotel (March 22). In a departure for Moby, Hotel will be entirely sample free – he plays all of his own instruments on the CD (sans drums) and sings (uh-oh) on nearly every track, joined occasionally by his friend Laura Dawn, the creative events director for MoveOn.org.
