The truth is that the best parties happen to be the summer open-air parties of all kinds, the big things featuring international DJ stars as well as free techno festivals and everything else that's on the menu.

creamfields

T
his summer's big thing has to be the Creamfields party with Underworld, Paul Oakenfold, Seb Fontaine and Timo Maas. But it doesn't mean that parties inside will be worse, don't forget that Roxy celebrates its 10th anniversary this June with a great party! This summer is full of events and adventures so let's hope the weather goes along your party plans!

Massive celebration party is planned for Roxy's 10th B-Day, three stages will host 15DJs with 4MCs. Main stage features Matthew Bushwacka B! supported by resident DJs Trava, Michael Burian, Chris Sadler, Rai and Airto with MCs P.E.Z. & La Fleur.

Freestyle stage will be dedicated to the beats, courtesy of Koogi, Babe LN, Ghonzales, Stanzim and Touchwood, with MCs Lin-Dee & Adrenalin. Fresh zone is the place to rest (and be thankful) in the company of DJ Tall, Ash, Hoffee and Mowgli.

Other things planned are: special b-day performance, visual art, light show and a historical tram playing music will drive across the center of town during the big day. Happy Birthday!

Two parties under the same name - Global Connection Party - will go off in Brno and Prague respectively.

The Brno part will happen at the BVV (exhibition park) on June 15th and the line-up is headlined by The Advent (live act, Lisboa) and Juan Atkins (Detroit), supported by Umek (Ljubljana), Nika 77, Agent, Daho & Ginger, Radan Mach, Lucca, Orbith, Pavel Bidlo, Stephunk (live), Vik, Javas, Kel and Lumitre.

A week later the party moves to Holesovice, where the bill is topped by Richie Hawkin - Plasticman (Detroit, USA), X-Press 2 (Rocky, Diesel & Ashley Beedle on 6 decks, London), Way Out West live, Ian Pooley (Mainz)and Charles Webster, supported by Rulers of the Deep (Talin), Toky aka Rumenige live, La-Di-Da, Pavel Bidlo, Kel, Tall, Lumitre and Stephunk (live).

Cosmic Trip used to be a free techno festival but over the past seven years has changed into a properly organized action with lots to offer. This year will see two stages, "In da mix" will focus on straight beats and "Semtex Live" will rock with live projects and jungle DJs. Altogether that means over 20 international DJs along with the Czech "crtme de la crtme".

In da mix line-up features Christian Vogel, Karl O'Connor aka Regis & Female (live act), Takaaki Itoh, David Sumner aka Function & Mike Shannon, Dean Cole aka User, Joss Crooks, Igor Pataki (who still owes us money), Toky, Dalo, Agent, Kaiseroze, Nika 77 and Mountain. Daho & Gingerem plus THS & Quickiem will work 4 decks. Semtex Live stage offers Warszafski Deszcz, Peneri Strycka Homeboye, Indy a Wich - drum'n'bass - Dreazz & Falcon with MC Dart, part of crew Trife.Life!, IM Cyber with MC Greenie, Inspiral X62, Usual Suspects, Koogi, Katcha & MC Nu.C and Klara Nemravova, Babe LN, Filip TBC, Dekadenz 2K and Skyline.

Svojsice 2002 definitely belongs to one of the July parties that you should know about. Three stages will accommodate the likes of Damon Wild, Cari Lekebusch, Paul Mac and Damon Vallero with the support of Agent, Aiffel and Matrix.

Interesting should also be the Loop Festival happening at BVV (exhibition place) in Brno at the end of July. Organized is a nice DJ line-up topped with Gayle San (Singapore), Samuel L'Session (EU), Rob OK (UK) and Jeri Hullkonen (Finsko) plus all the top Czech DJs will spin their records here too.

If you are into rock and alternative actions, your way should lead to Boskovice for the days of July 11th - 15th. The legendary summer fest organized by Unijazz celebrates it's 10th anniversary this year!

The main stage will, as usually, feature all the pillars of Czech alternative music - Uz jsme doma, MCH Band, Ty Sycaci with a punk opera SSSS, Pavel Fajt with his project called Drumtek or the winners of last year's Mala Alternativa - Brno's own Budoar stare damy featuring their charismatic signer Marta Svobodova.

World music scene welcomes the likes of Presburger Klezmer Band (SK), Ahmed ma hlad and Jana Levitova with Vladimir Merta. Along with them you can enjoy the tunes of Tata Bojs, Black Fire (USA) and the legendary man called Jim Cert. Other important part of the festival is the film and video projections.

Different things are in the pipeline this year, among others you can see 3 movies of Julio Medem (Spain), famous Czech comedy Fadni odpoledne by Ivan Passer, films awarded at the One World Festival, a classic by Luciano Visconti - Death in Venice, films of Jan Svankmajer or the post-dada styled joke called Andaluzska kocka. Don't miss the theathre shows (Buchty a Loutky, Mama-ya & Papa-ya, OKOLO, Divadlo Facka), reading by author (Vit Kremlicka), exhibitions (Martin Kollar, Jindrich Strejt) and all the other fun actions prepared for you!

Taking stock of the contemporary explosion in the French dance scene, FSOP fails to draw distinct conclusion about what defines it. It's seen as a pretty housey movement, that's for certain, and there is a tendency to chuck a rumba or samba loop...
