For The Royal Treatment, groups and artists from San Francisco's City Of Tribes label were remixed by Californian dance producers, including the well-known Scott and Gavin Hardkiss. City Of Tribes' star musician, dijiridu player Stephen Kent is sampled from the group Trance Mission's "Go Play Outside?; track by the Baroness, and recontextualised into an acidic dub-house groove that mutates into hard funky hip-hop beats, and features dubbed elements ? so yes, expect this compilation to display that eclectic West Coast sound that runs the gamut of rave culture.
Lights In A Fat City synthesist, Simon Tassano, also provides a richly textured tribal-ambient track, the unreleased "Tropic Of Texas." If you don't care for rhythm in your ambient music, don't miss the atmospheric moment provided by the Venezuelan quartet Incierto Insecto. |

For the original sound of the City Of Tribes groups, seek out their latest compilation, #4 in the Event Horizon series, which includes a live version of the Trance Mission track that was remixed above.
