Full disclosure: I'm not really even into electronica, but this project was pretty wicked. Whether it's the legendary poet Amiri Baraka ripping his words across the technaloid aural assault "Boogieman", or Roots Manuva showing why he is considered a legend when he ducks and dodges sound waves on the electro pop dancehall stylings of "True School", this album is packed with stellar material. If you consider yourself a fan of the Chemical Brothers, then focus your attention on the lead single, "Everything Is Under Control", which features Jon Spencer (of Blues Explosion fame) and the Bronx's own Mike Ladd performing lyrical wizardry. The song is cool although it is not the only single worthy song on the album. Sound Mirrors' elements of electro, hip-hop, soul, funk, and a plethora of other influences that pop up everywhere make for a rather eclectic and interesting overall project.

Some might get annoyed at the amount of downtime between each release from Coldcut, but after a listen to Sound Mirrors its perfectly clear why Matt and Jon have kept their work to themselves until they were ready to unveil their Piece de Resistance... By the way, the album artwork is off the hook. I think I might actually get this one framed!!!
