THE HACKER - A.N.D.N.O.W...

Known for his production work with Miss Kittin, the Hacker steps into the deejay booth and delivers a commendable, eclectic mix. Le French Techno is supercool! For those craving a history lesson on the past quarter century of French electronic music, the Hacker serves it up in a palatable way, just like the high-school French teacher you never had. Even the German (Ellen Allien) and the Belgian (Front 242) get a Gallic redux on this single-disc mix that mines the old (Liaisons Dangereuses) to combine with the new (Mount Sims). The electro-techno is delightful and dark, like a piece of bitter chocolate. While it's unlikely that the Hacker is trying to impress anyone with his analog techniques at this stage in his career, his refusal to mix with a computer is more quaint than artistic. From an expert and aficionado, one might want more, but can't expect anything less.
